Why convert a PDF page to an image?

You may need a page as a JPG or PNG for a presentation, website, message or image editor. Turning the page into an image makes the entire rendered page behave like one picture.

Text in that image is no longer ordinary selectable PDF text unless another OCR process is used.

JPG or PNG?

JPG is often efficient for photographs and can produce smaller files with lossy compression. PNG is lossless and can be better for screenshots, diagrams and sharp graphics, although files may be larger.

For a text-heavy PDF page, compare the output rather than choosing purely by file extension.
