How to Reorder Pages in a PDF

Learn how to rearrange PDF pages, fix scanned documents in the wrong order and check page numbering after moving pages.
Why reorder PDF pages?
Pages can end up in the wrong order after scanning, combining documents or inserting an extra page. Reordering changes the sequence without requiring you to recreate the PDF.
Typical fixes include moving a cover to the front, placing an appendix at the end or correcting pages scanned out of sequence.

Use page previews, not only numbers
Thumbnail previews make it easier to identify pages by their actual content. This matters when the printed page number does not match the PDF viewer’s page position.
For example, a document may have an unnumbered cover, making printed page 1 the second page in the PDF.

Check connected pages
When moving one page, look at the pages before and after it. Tables, diagrams and paragraphs may continue across page boundaries, so a page that looks correct by itself can still be in the wrong place.
A quick scroll through the finished document is usually enough to spot obvious sequence problems.

What reordering does not do
Reordering changes page position, not the content printed on the page. If the document has page numbers embedded in the artwork, those numbers will move with the pages.
You may need to add or replace page numbering after the new order is final.
